Hello, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the success stories that MaryBeth has been having using the Vantage Lite. MB has a strong desire to communicate but, at times, finds it difficult to comprehend what is being asked of her. Lately she has been able to respond to questions such as “Who did you see?” and “Who went with you?” She is also using her VTL to greet people in the community at such places as Thornbridge, G&F, Canada Games Pool, Good life Fitness and various coffee shops. Overall, MaryBeth has become independent in using her device and requires very little prompting from staff.
MaryBeth Bank Client StoryThe other students in the program have been preparing a presentation to share with the community at large regarding the nature of the support they require from the community in function well in an inclusive manner. In early December 2012 they made such a presentation at her former high school to the staff and students of the Foundation for Success Program. This was the first time MB was able to participate as part of the TEAM. MB was able to introduce herself and talk about her daily routine using her Vantage Lite. The staff at NWSS were amazed at her level of participation and progress since she graduated from the program 2 years ago.
We are constantly seeking new opportunities that will help MB in her develop of communication skills. Recently we met with another individual who is also using a similar communication device and staff have arranged for them to get together, along with their respective support staff, to get to know each other . They are both using their respective devices to have a conversation.
Here are some pictures of MB using her device. It has given her a voice.
