This photo shows Joy communicating with her friend Karen. You can see that Joy uses a Springboard accessed by a head switch, and that both she and Karen are listening to the auditory scan. Joy finds it hard to be accurate with the switch, but she loves to communicate. Every morning Joy uses her device to select her clothes and to chose some of that day’s activities. She also uses the device to participate with Karen playing her favorite game -Pass the Pigs, and to chose colours for their art projects. Joy gets very excited any time she has the chance to express her opinion or her preferences. Karen and Joy have found ways to discuss everything from-new-shoes-that-Mum-wouldn’t-approve-of to the meanings of obscure words!
At the weekly drama group she uses her device to participate in the circle discussions and in the drama games. Even though Joy is slow, the other drama group members wait and listen to Joy and ask her questions.

The CAYA device and CAYA support make all the difference for Joy and our family . Joy uses her device for everyday decisions at home and also to prepare and deliver special “messages” to her brother in Ohio via the web-cam.

Thanks for your part in this enriching aspect of Joy’s life.

Sincerely,
Kathy Potts
