Inaugural Kelowna CAYA Chat Room

The inaugural Kelowna CAYA Chat Room took place on April 29th, 2014. This first meeting brought together an astounding 24 people: people who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), support workers, and family! At this event, people who use AAC and their support workers were able to meet others, get connected and support each other in their challenges and successes with AAC.

The inaugural meeting was a chance for all the participants to introduce themselves to each other and for the group to discuss their goals for the Chat Room as it unfolds. The group was also given a taste of the activities that we could do as a group through playing a ‘detective’ game with picture support.

Margaret, parent to Jaclynn who uses AAC, said, “This was a great event. Jaclynn didn’t want to leave!!”

The group will get together once a month to meet new people, communicate using AAC and learn more about AAC.
