Are you, or do you know a Canadian adult with Parkinson’s disease, cerebral palsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Down syndrome, or someone who has speech difficulties post-stroke?
If yes, there is an opportunity to be a paid participant in a Speech Accessibility Project spearheaded by the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The goal of the project is to use recordings of diverse voices to train voice recognition technologies to understand people with diverse speech patterns and disabilities. Having more inclusive speech recognition technology will support millions of people with speech variances to access features that should be a universal experience.
